DAVINA'S STORY(pictured with producer Mateo Laboriel)
“ Before I came to Project R.Y.T.M.O, I felt that my future as a singer-songwriter would never become a reality. I had accepted the fact that I would never have a remote chance to fulfill my dreams in music. But thanks to the staff and support of Project R.Y.T.M.O., I see a very bright future ahead!”
Davina is a typical 17 year old high school student. She’s into school, fashion and friends and is involved in a number of community events in Anaheim and Garden Grove. However, there is one major difference that distinguishes the life of this talented young woman from others her age. She grew up in a rough and dangerous gang-infested community in Garden Grove, CA., where it seems that many nights are filled with sounds of gunshots or police patrol cars.
When Davina enrolled in Project R.Y.T.M.O, she demonstrated exceptional talent as a singer-songwriter. And yes, she actually wrote original music and recorded it for the first time in her life! She has even performed several times this year at a number of community events.
Today, Davina is finding a way to give back to her friends and community. She has already demonstrated leadership qualities, and was a participant of a Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Prevention Workshop for teens hosted in May, 2006 at Love & Laughter Studios. Through our collaboration with Community Service Programs in Santa Ana, Davina received valuable training about how to avoid the pitfalls of drugs and alcohol in her neighborhood. She now contributes time to instruct and inspire other teens who are enrolled in R.Y.T.M.O.
